Iran's proposal to Tehran included opening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting the blockade in exchange for postponing negotiations on its nuclear program, according to Reuters.
According to a senior Iranian official, the proposal envisages an end to hostilities on the condition of guarantees that the United States and Israel will no longer carry out strikes against Iran.
Under the plan, Tehran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz to shipping, while the United States would lift the blockade of Iranian ports. After that, the sides would return to negotiations on restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.
"Under this framework, negotiations over the more complicated nuclear issue have been moved to the final stage to create a more conducive atmosphere," the source told the outlet.
He added that Tehran views its latest proposal to delay nuclear talks to a later stage as a significant shift aimed at facilitating a potential agreement.
As a reminder, earlier this week Tehran sent Pakistan the text of a new peace negotiation plan with the United States, focusing on ending hostilities and achieving peace.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump told Congress that the war with Iran was over, although he has made similar statements before.
He also criticized Tehran's latest proposal and expressed doubt that the sides would be able to reach an agreement quickly.
