Iran claims it was ready to strike Ukraine

Following an attack on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea, Iran was reportedly prepared to launch a strike against Ukraine. However, the plan was ultimately abandoned, Ynet reports.
Iranian official Mohsen Rezaei said Iran had considered striking three targets inside Ukraine.
However, according to Rezaei, the plan was abandoned after Ukraine allegedly issued an apology.
"We were prepared to attack three targets in Ukraine, but after the country apologized we canceled the attack," he said.
According to the outlet, Rezaei's remarks came amid Tehran's threats to respond to an attack on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea in late July.
Iran's threats against Ukraine
On July 26, Iran accused Ukraine of attacking a civilian vessel in the Caspian Sea, claiming that one sailor was killed and another wounded.
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported a successful long-range strike on a ship that, according to him, was being used to transport military cargo to Russia.
According to media reports, Iran was considering a missile strike on one of Ukraine's seaports in retaliation for the Caspian Sea incident.
Following the incident, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha held a phone call with his Iranian counterpart. He stressed that Ukraine's actions are aimed solely at defending itself against Russian aggression and urged Iran to stop supporting Russia's war.
