Iran and Oman are close to finalizing an agreement on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, Reuters reports.
What's next for the Strait of Hormuz
Iran and Oman have reached an understanding on the geographic coordinates of the shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, Reuters reported.
A joint statement is now being finalized, provided no third parties interfere, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on August 5.
He described the negotiations between Tehran and Muscat as "professional" and "moving forward."
Baghaei added that any agreement between Iran and Oman would not, by itself, guarantee security along the strategic waterway.
Peace deal talks
The proposed agreement between Iran and Oman would give Tehran control over vessels entering the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that the United States and Iran were close to reaching a peace agreement if they can finalize an agreement on control of the Strait of Hormuz.
US President Donald Trump has also said that negotiations with Iran are progressing rapidly. He said normal shipping through the Strait of Hormuz could be fully restored as early as August 4.
