iPad mini future features: Rumors, leaks and predictions
The current generation of iPad mini was introduced back in September 2021 and hasn't been updated since. Rumor has it that the iPad mini might get an upgrade later this year with an improved display, faster performance, and other new features, according to 9to5Mac.
New display
According to rumors, the next generation of the iPad mini will feature an improved display to address the "jelly scroll" effect problem during scrolling.
Leaks suggest that Apple has altered the direction of screen assembly for the iPad mini to mitigate the impact of the design flaw causing the "jelly scroll" effect. Despite this improvement, the iPad mini 7's display will still be limited to a 60 Hz refresh rate and use LCD technology.
The "jelly scroll" effect occurs when one half of the device's screen refreshes noticeably slower than the other, creating a wave-like effect, hence the name "jelly scroll" effect.
Currently, Apple is facing a class-action lawsuit claiming that the "jelly scroll" effect issue makes the iPad mini 6 "unfit for use."
Faster performance
The next-generation iPad mini is expected to boast higher performance. The current model features the A15 Bionic chip. Initially, a credible source on Weibo claimed that the new model would feature the A16 Bionic chip.
However, later evidence found in the code hints that the new iPad mini might be equipped with the even faster A17 chip, offering greater performance.
In addition to the processor, other components of the iPad mini 7 will be updated, including support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
Additional changes
According to information from Instant Digital on Weibo, the iPad mini 7 will be available in new colors. For comparison, the current iPad mini model comes in purple, starlight, pink, and space gray.
The Weibo source also reports that the iPad mini 7 will have an improved camera, though no specific details are available yet.
Future of iPad mini
The new iPad mini 7 is expected to be released later this year, according to sources Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and Ming-Chi Kuo.
Looking further ahead, it's anticipated that Apple will equip the iPad mini with more advanced OLED displays, though this is still a few years away.
Recall that iPhone and iPad can now replace your PC thanks to this innovation.
