Thousands of people in Moscow and nearby districts, dubbed Podmoskovye, were left without home internet access, according to local Telegram channels.

What happened

Residents of the Russian capital region report a complete loss of home Wi-Fi internet access. Neither websites nor apps open, with even the pages of internet providers themselves being unavailable.

Complaints have come from customers of different internet companies, suggesting the issue is not linked to a single provider.

Users say the mobile internet is still functioning without interruptions.

No official comments have yet been issued by internet providers or authorities.

As the media repeatedly reported, Russia has been steadily tightening control over its digital space.

According to reports, Russia's Ministry of Digital Development is promoting paid email services for entrepreneurs and plans to introduce separate fees for VPN use. Authorities also intend to fine those attempting to bypass restrictions.

At the same time, digital censorship in Russia has had an unexpected effect: due to widespread blocking, viewership of pro-government so-called "Z" channels has dropped by nearly 41%.

The system no longer distinguishes between ins and outs, affecting all users indiscriminately.
