Intensity of fighting in southern Ukraine decreases
In the south of Ukraine, the intensity of fighting is decreasing. At the same time, Russian troops are actively using aviation, according to the spokesperson for the Tavria operational group, Dmytro Lykhovii.
"Compared to last week, the intensity of combat operations is decreasing. In the Zaporizhzhia region, specifically in the Orikhiv and Huliaipole directions, it is the third day of zero combat engagements. As for the Russian ground assaults, no enemy offensive attempts were recorded today from the beginning of the day until 4 p.m.," Lykhovii said.
He noted that combat activity is taking place only on the left bank of the Dnipro River, where Ukrainian units continue to hold footholds, in particular near the village of Krynky.
"There are small attempts to attack by infantry units up to a squad size without armored vehicles. However, the enemy has not succeeded, no positions have been lost," the spokesperson added.
He also mentioned that the Russian forces are using aviation, including dropping guided aerial bombs, six of which were dropped today.
Additionally, the Russian troops are shelling the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions with dozens of unguided air-to-surface missiles and employing artillery.
Frontline situation
According to the General Staff, there were 78 combat engagements at the front from the beginning of August 19. Russian forces continue to assault the positions of Ukrainian defenders in almost all directions.
In particular, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back Russian troops in the Kharkiv direction, where the enemy is attempting to advance but without success.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has lost 600,000 military personnel. Over the past day, the losses of the Russian army amounted to 1,120 troops.
Additionally, yesterday the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed 48 artillery systems, 15 armored personnel carriers, 48 artillery systems, and other enemy equipment.
