Inside Ukraine's Odesa region blackout: How Russian drones cut power and water lifelines

Active repairs continue in the Odesa region after a nighttime strike by Russian attack drones. The drones targeted only civilian critical infrastructure, reports Oleg Kiper, Head of Odesa Regional Military Administration.
Kiper did not specify which settlements were hit, but the situation likely refers to Chornomorsk, where dozens of attack drones struck.
"Fuel, food, water, and all essential goods in stores are available. Prices are stable, and no shortages are observed. The internet and communications are working without interruption, and all banking institutions are equipped with generators. Hospitals are also operating normally and providing all necessary care," Kiper said.
He added that the water supply is currently being powered by generators. Repairs to the electricity infrastructure at the attacked sites are ongoing.
"Fifteen repair crews are working around the clock with 18 units of equipment. Power was restored to more than 2,500 subscribers during the day. However, the damage is significant so that the restoration process will take time," Kiper said.

On the night of August 31, Russian forces attacked Chornomorsk with drones. The city's Mayor, Vasyl Huliaiev, described it as the largest attack on Chornomorsk since the start of the full-scale war. The attackers targeted energy facilities, leaving the city without electricity.
According to the energy company DTEK (the largest energy company in Ukraine), four energy facilities in the Odesa region were hit. Water supply to the upper floors of residential buildings in Chornomorsk will now follow a schedule.
