An Indian citizen was killed in Russia's overnight attack on Ukraine. He was among the 12 victims of the massive Russian attack on September 1, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Since the night, efforts to deal with the aftermath of the attack have continued in many cities and communities. In Kyiv and the region alone, nearly 350 rescuers were involved in the response, the president said.
Russia used a large number of jet-powered drones and ballistic missiles. Residential areas and civilian infrastructure were damaged in several regions of the country.
Boryspil: Five-story building damaged
"In Boryspil, an ordinary five-story residential building was damaged. Fifty people were evacuated," Zelenskyy said.
Businesses in the city were also hit. A total of four people were killed in Boryspil, while another 13 were injured.
Strikes on Odesa and Kyiv
Since the evening, Russian forces had been striking Odesa and the region with guided aerial bombs and drones. Thousands of families were left without electricity.
Russia deliberately damaged a checkpoint on the border with Romania, as well as export infrastructure facilities.
In Kyiv, a strike on a railway depot killed seven people.
Eight more regions came under attack
The attack also affected the Kherson, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy, and Dnipro regions.
A total of 12 people were killed in the overnight attack. Among them was an Indian citizen. Dozens more Ukrainians were injured.
Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi added that the Indian citizen was killed during the attack on the Kyiv region.
He was due to celebrate his 26th birthday today.
Earlier in the morning, it became known that the Russian attack on Kyiv damaged five districts at once — Holosiivskyi, Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, and Solomianskyi.
The highest number of casualties was recorded in the Darnytskyi district. Seven people were killed there. In the Solomianskyi district, a drone struck a residential building and partially destroyed it.
The day before, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Bishkek, called for an end to the "endless war" for the sake of peace.
He stressed that every day of hostilities sets humanity back and called for all issues to be resolved peacefully.
The Boryspil and Obukhiv districts came under attack overnight. Falling debris damaged residential buildings and infrastructure facilities in the Obukhiv district.
One person was injured there.
