In Georgia, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, Nika Gvaramia, was transferred to a detention facility in Marneuli. He had been detained by law enforcement officers the day before, Gruziya Online informs.

According to media reports, today law enforcement officers conducted searches in the offices of the Akhali, Droa, Girchi - More Freedom parties, and the opposition Unity - National Movement political force.

During the searches, the founder of the Akhali opposition party and leader of the Coalition for Change, Nika Gvaramia, as well as activist Gela Khasaya, were detained.

According to Gvaramia's lawyer, Dito Sadzaglishvili, the whereabouts of his client were not disclosed by law enforcement authorities. He also stated that there was physical abuse during Nika Gvaramia's detention.

"This was not reported by the OMON (system of military special police units - ed.)– the actions of the agency calling itself the police make them worse than OMON," the lawyer said.

Protests in Georgia

In late October, the Georgian Dream pro-Russian party won the parliamentary elections in Georgia. Following this, the country's president, Salome Zourabishvili, and the opposition claimed there were violations during the elections and did not recognize the results. They declared that the parliament was illegitimate and called for protests.

Initially, the rallies in Georgia were peaceful, but after the new government's decision to postpone negotiations for EU membership until 2028, large-scale protests erupted in Tbilisi and other cities. This led to the involvement of law enforcement, who used water cannons, tear gas, and carried out arrests.
