Improves heart function and lowers blood sugar: Nutritionist names beneficial drink
A fairly popular drink with a tea flavor has emerged. This is kombucha, also known as tea mushroom. It turns out that this drink is very beneficial for the body, according to Ukrainian nutritionist Iryna Levchenko.
What is kombucha
Kombucha is a low-calorie, natural, non-alcoholic tea-based drink fermented by a colony of probiotics and yeast strains. It is rich in probiotics, vitamins, and antioxidants.
One of the most important components of kombucha is the "mushroom" or SCOBY.
"What we commonly refer to as a 'mushroom' is actually not one. The abbreviation SCOBY stands for Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast, meaning a symbiosis of bacteria and yeast," the message states.
Beneficial properties of kombucha
It has a positive effect on the gastrointestinal tract
Kombucha contains lactic acid bacteria (LAB) such as Lactobacillus, Leuconostoc, and Bifidobacterium.
These primarily help prevent inflammatory processes and irritable bowel syndrome.
Reduces inflammation
Kombucha contains polyphenols, which are antioxidants that help reduce inflammation in the body.
Strengthens the immune system
The immune system is directly linked to gut health, as antibodies that protect the body from harmful bacteria and viruses are produced in the gut. Kombucha is rich in probiotics, which positively affect gut microbiota.
Improves cardiovascular health
High cholesterol levels are a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Kombucha may help lower LDL (bad cholesterol) and increase HDL (good cholesterol) levels.
Lowers blood sugar levels
Consuming kombucha can benefit people with insulin resistance or diabetes.
The nutritionist noted that if you have irritable bowel syndrome or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, you should moderate kombucha consumption and restore gut function to avoid painful bloating and gas.
