Nutritionist explains what happens to body when you give up sugary carbonated drinks
Usually, everyone quenches their thirst with carbonated drinks in the summer. However, sweetened water does not benefit the body. It is important to know what happens to the body when you give up such drinks and sugar.
RBC-Ukraine reports on the symptoms that may appear when you stop consuming sweet drinks.
What changes will occur in the body
First of all, it is important to understand that any restrictions can lead to stress and overeating. Therefore, it's not advisable to completely eliminate any foods or impose strict limitations.
Most of your diet should consist of foods and products that benefit the body.
Ukrainian nutritionist Vira Kurin advises limiting indulgent treats in your diet but not eliminating them entirely. This is because complete deprivation can lead to binges, which might be even more harmful.
“A healthy attitude towards food is not about prohibitions; it’s about forming healthy habits that become a part of your life. This, in turn, will help improve your well-being and achieve your desired shape permanently,” she explained.
New symptoms may appear
Carbonated drinks are among the most harmful, and moderate reduction will undoubtedly improve your well-being and overall health.
Specifically, when you give up carbonated drinks, you may experience symptoms such as headaches or fatigue, especially if you consume caffeinated soda.
If carbonated water is your main source of caffeine, you might experience some of these caffeine withdrawal symptoms. However, drinking black coffee or even simple black or green tea can still provide caffeine without all the empty calories and added sugar.
If you consume a significant amount of sugar and sweet drinks regularly, you might experience various symptoms upon withdrawal, including headaches, nausea, muscle aches, lack of energy, and irritability.
Additionally, sugar withdrawal symptoms can even resemble those of withdrawal from serious drugs.
By replacing carbonated drinks with water, you can speed up your metabolism, improve heart health, and even lose some weight.
Giving up carbonated drinks can help improve bone and dental health, reduce the risk of osteoporosis, kidney failure, and urinary tract infections, and combat diabetes and other chronic conditions.
