Important talks between Ukraine and US President-elect Donald Trump will be possible after his inauguration. However, the exact date has not yet been set.
“I don't know when the meetings will be held, I don't have a date... it depends on many things - not only on the schedules but also on the legitimacy of the meetings. If we want meetings to resolve any issues, then there must be appropriate legislative opportunities for this, the inauguration must be held,” Zelensky said.
He noted that the negotiation process at the team level is ongoing and emphasized that many forces are now trying to prevent a strong alliance between Kyiv and Washington.
Ukraine may end the war next year
President Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine has every chance to end the war next year and that it is necessary to hear new proposals from the new US president on a plan to end the war. Zelenskyy noted that it would be possible as early as January.
“We are open, I will say it again, to the leaders of African countries, Asia, and the Arab states as well... We are ready to see their proposals. I also want to see the proposals of the new President of the United States of America. I think we will see these proposals in January. And I think we will have a plan to end this war,” he said.
He also added that he “did not want the Russian quality of disinformation to influence people, that we have only our plan and we do not want to hear from other partners from other continents. This is not true”.
At the same time, the president emphasized that the global South will be on the side of Ukraine and on the side of ending the war when the United States has a stronger position.
“I am confident that we have every chance to do it next year (end the war - ed.). There are appropriate steps for this... We realize that Russia will not take all these steps. But there is a UN charter and all our steps based on the UN charter will be supported by our partners,” Zelensky said.
Zelensky recently emphasized that the world must do everything to ensure that the war ends diplomatically in 2025.
