IMF to consider $1.1 billion tranche for Ukraine
According to the Executive Board calendar on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) official website, the Board of Directors will discuss Ukraine at its meeting on December 20. It is planned to approve the sixth review of the Extended Arrangement under the Extended Fund Facility, a request to change a performance criterion, and a review of funding assurances.
Based on the results of the review, there will be a decision to disburse a tranche of $1.1 billion to Ukraine.
Earlier, the IMF mission and the Ukrainian authorities reached an agreement on this issue. Therefore, the meeting of the Fund's executive body is largely a formality.
Ukraine received $900 million in March, $2.2 billion in July, and $1.1 billion in October. The total amount since the beginning of the year has reached $4.2 billion.
Ukraine's agreement with the IMF on a $15.6 billion EFF program was approved in March 2023. The program has already received six tranches totaling about $8.7 billion.
In its October memorandum, the IMF revised its forecast for the duration of the war in Ukraine and for assistance to Kyiv from its partners. The Fund expects that in the baseline scenario, the war will end in late 2025, and Ukraine will need $151.4 billion in 2023-2027.
In this regard, the IMF has increased funding for Ukraine in 2025. Earlier, the IMF planned to provide Ukraine with $1.835 billion in 2025 in two tranches of $917.5 million (at the current dollar to SDR exchange rate) in March and August.
Currently, it is planned to disburse $2.712 billion in four tranches: $917.5 million in March, $809.6 million in June, $539.8 million in August, and $445.3 million in December.
