The International Monetary Fund mission will soon arrive in Ukraine to discuss a potential new lending program, states IMF Communications Department Director Julie Kozack, according to Reuters.
At a briefing, Kozack said the IMF mission will focus on policies aimed at ensuring Ukraine’s macroeconomic stability and debt sustainability. The emphasis will be on reforms to improve domestic revenue mobilization, enhance governance, and fight corruption.
"We've been saying for some time that Ukraine needs a robust anti-corruption architecture to level the playing field, safeguard public resources, improve the business climate and attract investment," she noted.
The IMF Communications Department Director also pointed out that anti-corruption efforts are one of the main conditions set by Ukraine’s donors.
Kozack made this statement after Ukraine’s NABU exposed a high-profile corruption scheme in the energy sector.
New IMF program for Ukraine
Ukraine’s current lending program with the International Monetary Fund runs until 2027.
However, Ukrainian authorities see the need to develop a new financing program. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko has already asked the IMF to begin preparations for a new program, given that Russia’s war against Ukraine is ongoing.
On October 3, IMF Communications Department Director Julie Kozack reported that the fund is discussing the parameters of the future program with the Ukrainian side.
At the same time, Ukraine’s Finance Minister Serhii Marchenko recently stated that the new IMF program for the country could be approved as early as January 2026.
