Cuba is not afraid of threats from US President Donald Trump regarding a possible "taking" of the island and is ready to defend itself in the event of military aggression, according to Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, cited by Politico.
Cuba's stance on US threats
In his interview with NBC, Miguel Díaz-Canel said his country is prepared to fight in the event of an American invasion. He expressed his personal readiness to make a self-sacrifice to preserve the current regime.
"I have no fear. I am willing to give my life for the revolution," the Cuban leader emphasized.
According to the president, aggression against Cuba would be unjustified and would incur very high costs for everyone involved.
He also expressed doubt that American society would support a war against the island.
Position on Washington's blockade and conditions
President Díaz-Canel described the Trump administration's actions, including the economic blockade, as "unfair and vicious."
He rejected US demands for multiparty elections, the release of political prisoners, and recognition of a free press.
"We have self-determination and independence, and we are not subjected to the designs of the United States," the Cuban leader said, dismissing the possibility of stepping down.
The president called on Washington to reconsider what he described as a "cruel and mean" policy toward the Cuban people.
Escalation around Cuba
The situation around the island escalated in March 2026.
Earlier, the media reported that the Cuban army had begun active preparations for possible US military intervention. Havana believes that amid Washington's threats, it would be "naive to ignore the possibility" of a direct US attack.
In addition, Cuba's Foreign Ministry officially stated that the country does not intend to discuss its internal political system or issues of regime change with the United States, calling such demands interference in its sovereignty.
President Miguel Díaz-Canel has previously also stressed that the country is ready to resist if Donald Trump's threats are carried out, emphasizing that Havana will not yield to external pressure.
