Cuba is ready to resist in case of an attack by the United States, which American leader Donald Trump has threatened, Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel says.

"The United States almost every day publicly threatens Cuba with the overthrow of the constitutional order by force. And for this, they use an outrageous pretext: strict restrictions on a weakened economy, which they have attacked and tried to isolate for more than six decades," Diaz Canel wrote.

According to him, the United States announced plans to seize Cuba, its resources, and even its economy itself, which "they seek to strangle to force the country to surrender."

"This is the only way to explain the fierce economic war that is used as collective punishment against entire people. Even in the worst-case scenario, Cuba is confident in one thing: any external aggressor will face insurmountable resistance," the president stressed.

Trump's threats

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, made a high-profile statement regarding Cuba. During public speech, he allowed the possibility of establishing control over the island and said that he has sufficient capabilities to influence the situation.

"I can free it or take it, I think I can do anything I want with it," Trump said.

Recently, the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, publicly confirmed for the first time that his country is conducting negotiations with the United States amid economic crisis and increased political pressure from the Trump administration.

Trump himself, several days ago, stated that Washington may, in the near future, reach an agreement with Cuba or, on the contrary, make other decisions regarding the island.

Before that, Trump said that Cuba has two possible scenarios for development. According to the American leader, it is either an agreement to the so-called friendly takeover or an option that he called not friendly, adding that in the end, it does not matter.
