Hungary signals possible Carpathian Eight membership after resolving differences with Ukraine

Hungary and Ukraine have resolved the diplomatic misunderstandings that arose between the countries, including those surrounding the Carpathian Eight, Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán said this, according to Index.
She noted that during events held as part of the UN General Assembly, she held several meetings with the Ukrainian foreign minister. As a result of the dialogue, the sides managed to ease tensions and settle the disputes.
Orbán said that while public attention was focused on events on social media, a continuous negotiation process was underway behind the scenes. She also stressed that Hungary does not rule out joining the Carpathian Eight in the future.
"We are happy to participate in any regional and bilateral cooperation that serves Hungary’s interests," the diplomat stressed, adding that prior dialogue and appropriate preparations would be required for such a step.
Fuel storage for Ukraine
In addition, Orbán addressed the issue of energy cooperation and confirmed the position of the government and Prime Minister Péter Magyar regarding fuel reserves.
According to her, there will be no strategic facilities on Hungarian territory for storing fuel and petroleum products for Ukraine.
Péter Magyar said that Ukraine had invited Hungary to join the Carpathian Eight. At the same time, he stressed that Budapest had reasons not to do so.
On September 18, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the establishment of a new cooperation format – the Carpathian Eight. It will bring together Ukraine and seven European countries, as well as the EU.
