Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán staged an event in Budapest, dubbed the Fifth American Conservative Conference, to showcase his supposed support, with US President Donald Trump even speaking at the gathering, HVG reports.

Trump once again claimed he supports Orbán's re-election and his political party. He described Orbán as a strong leader, who has "his unconditional support and has shown what a country can achieve when it defends its borders, culture, heritage, sovereignty, and interests."

The US president also stated that Europe needs to get a grip on its many problems. Trump believes Europe should follow Orbán's example, which is why he wants Orbán to win the upcoming April elections.

Other European politicians with right-wing and pro-Russian leanings were also present. For example, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, whose legitimacy is questioned by the Georgian opposition, attended.

Also in attendance was Dutch anti-EU Party for Freedom leader Geert Wilders. Argentine President Javier Milei and new Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš were scheduled to appear but canceled at the last minute.

However, Babiš, suspected of anti-European views, still spoke at the conference online, alongside Trump.

Orbán escalates tensions with Ukraine

Hungary's prime minister is reportedly building his election campaign around portraying Ukraine as an enemy. Despite the risks, the pro-Russian Hungarian prime minister is deliberately straining relations with Kyiv.

A wave of anti-Ukrainian and anti-European propaganda has spread across Hungary. Kremlin is reportedly helping Orbán, with the Russian intelligence even proposing staging an assassination attempt on him.

Peter Magyar, leader of the Hungarian opposition party Tisza, accused Orbán of inviting Russian intelligence agents into Hungary to interfere in the parliamentary elections scheduled for April 12.

Earlier, the media outlets reported that the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry sharply condemned a series of anti-Ukrainian actions by Hungary, warning Orbán about the dangers of his policies.
