Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó accused Ukraine of worsening relations between the two countries, according to the Foreign Minister’s Facebook post.

"I can say with a clear conscience that Kyiv bears full responsibility for the fact that relations between Hungary and Ukraine have suffered such an extraordinary deterioration over the past 10 years," Szijjártó stated.

He also noted that Hungary is allegedly interested in good relations with all neighboring countries, including Ukraine.

"We did not take away the rights of the Ukrainian minority in Hungary, we are not jeopardizing the energy security of Ukrainians, and we do not want to drag them into the war. Hungarian-Ukrainian relations are very complicated, and I sincerely hope they will develop better in the next ten years than they have in the past ten years," the Hungarian Foreign Minister added.

He also said that his country is ready to improve relations, but, according to him, this allegedly depends solely on Kyiv and Ukraine.

What came before

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is fulfilling all the requirements for joining the European Union, but the process is being blocked by Hungary. He added that this looks especially strange given that even the Russian side has already practically come to terms with Kyiv’s European integration.

However, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that Hungary is not an anti-Ukrainian state and wants a future for Ukraine. He also believes that discussions on security guarantees for Ukraine should take place with Russia rather than with the United States.

RBC-Ukraine also reported on outrage in Hungary over Ukrainian strikes on the Druzhba oil pipeline. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó called the strikes on Druzhba a so-called attack on his country’s energy security.
