Ukraine has been elected for the first time in history to the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO. This occurred during the 24th session of the General Assembly of the participating countries of the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, according to the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.

"This is a historic event for Ukraine and a significant step in the development and protection of Ukraine's cultural and natural heritage. We thank the participating countries of the Convention for their expressed solidarity in supporting Ukraine. Now, more than ever, it is crucial to unite to protect our cultural heritage," noted Rostyslav Karandieiev, the Acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.

The department emphasizes that this move opens new opportunities for Ukraine in implementing the Convention. This includes decisions regarding the use of the World Heritage Fund and the inclusion of objects in the World Heritage List and the List of World Heritage in Danger.

The Ministry reminds that Ukraine ratified the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage back in 1988. It contributes to the effective preservation and conservation of cultural and natural heritage within our country's territory.
