Hezbollah pledged to intensify attacks on U.S. forces in the Middle East
Lebanon's Hezbollah group has pledged to intensify attacks on United States military bases in the Middle East, according to Reuters.
"The Hezbollah militants' attacks on American military bases mark the beginning of new rules of engagement," a representative of the group stated.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin named Hezbollah responsible for the attack on the U.S. embassy in Iraq on Friday, December 8, and stated that the U.S. retains the right to respond.
The Lebanese group has claimed responsibility for 11 attacks on U.S. forces. U.S. officials have reported over 80 attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria since mid-October.
Attacks on U.S. military bases in the Middle East
Since Hamas militants initiated the war against Israel, dozens of attacks on U.S. forces have taken place in the Middle East. According to U.S. Central Command, these attacks resulted in injuries to 20 individuals.
In response, the U.S. conducted strikes on two Iranian facilities in Syria. Against the backdrop of these strikes on U.S. bases in early November, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Iraq.
Furthermore, on November 21, the U.S. carried out airstrikes in response to an attack on the Al-Asad airbase in Iraq and eliminated between five and eight militants.
On December 8, the U.S. embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, was hit by a rocket attack. According to Iraqi security officials, a total of 14 Katyusha rockets were fired.
