Healthy breakfasts for children: Recipes and valuable tips from a doctor
Children are our greatest treasure, and their health is an extremely important matter. One of the fundamental components of a healthy lifestyle for children is proper nutrition, particularly breakfast.
Dr. and health expert Ulyana Verner shared with RBC-Ukraine tips for beneficial breakfasts for children.
Why breakfast is important for children
Breakfast is the first meal after the overnight period when the body needs energy to start an active day. Children who have breakfast regularly have more opportunities to get the necessary nutrients and energy for physical and intellectual development. They perform better in school tasks, have stable moods, and have high cognitive functions.
What children should have for breakfast
Children's breakfast should be balanced and nutritious. Here are some essential components to include:
-
Proteins: necessary for muscle and tissue growth. Milk, yogurt, eggs, and meat are excellent sources of protein for breakfast.
-
Carbohydrates: supply glucose, an energy source for activity and concentration. Bread, cereals, fruits, and vegetables are good sources of carbohydrates.
-
Vitamins and minerals: fruits, vegetables, and berries contain vitamins and minerals essential for normal body functioning and immunity.
-
Healthy fats: some fats, such as omega-3 fatty acids, are important for brain development. Olive oil, nuts, and avocados are sources of healthy fats.
