Harris to interview six candidates for vice president
US Vice President and presidential candidate Kamala Harris will interview six potential vice presidential candidates this weekend, reports the Associated Press.
The list of interviews includes the governors of Kentucky Andy Beshear, Illinois Jay Pritzker, Pennsylvania Josh Shapiro, and Minnesota Tim Walz, as well as Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
The newspaper notes that during the shortened selection process, Shapiro and Kelly were seen as favorites.
Some have publicly withdrawn from consideration, including North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, who has been close to Harris since their time together when she was the state's attorney general.
The AP also writes that the deadline for choosing a running mate is Tuesday, August 6, when Harris will begin a tour of seven key swing states.
US elections and the nomination of Kamala Harris
In July, US President Joe Biden refused to continue to participate in the election race. Instead, he proposed Vice President Kamala Harris as a candidate for the presidency.
Having secured the support of the Democrats, a vote was recently held in the United States in which Kamala Harris was elected as a presidential candidate. About 4,000 delegates took part in the voting, 3,923 of whom voted for the current vice president.
