Harris launches campaign to attract voters scared off by Trump
This Sunday, US Vice President Kamala Harris is launching a campaign to win over Republican voters who are scared off by Donald Trump's candidacy, reports Associated Press.
According to the vice president's team, the "Republicans for Harris" program will be a "campaign within a campaign" in which prominent Republicans will use their social media to reach out to voters who supported former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley.
The program will begin with events this week in Arizona, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Republicans who support Harris will also participate in rallies with the vice president and her running mate next week.
The Associated Press writes that Biden's team is trying to create a "permit structure" for GOP voters who would otherwise have a hard time voting for Harris. The effort will rely heavily on contacts between Republican voters.
The idea behind the campaign is that the best way to get a Republican to vote for Harris is to hear directly from another Republican who has made the same choice.
Harris and Trump debate
The second debate between the US presidential candidates was scheduled for September 10 on ABC News. However, after Biden dropped out of the race, Trump called for a debate with Harris on Fox News, a channel close to him, on September 4.
Yesterday, August 3, it became known that Harris's headquarters refused to debate on Trump's terms and is waiting for him on the 10th, as previously agreed. The campaign headquarters also added that the vice president would come to ABC regardless of whether Trump came to the channel.
