Harris increases lead over Trump in election ratings - Survey
Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is leading her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, with a result of 45% to 41%, according to Reuters.
The agency released the results of a joint Reuters/Ipsos poll indicating that the incumbent Vice President is generating renewed enthusiasm among voters and shifting the dynamics of the race ahead of the November elections.
It is noted that the 4 percentage point lead among registered voters is greater than the 1 point advantage Harris had over the former president in the Reuters/Ipsos survey conducted in late July.
Sympathy of women and Latinos
The new survey, conducted over eight days and concluding on Wednesday, August 28, with a margin of error of 2%, revealed that Harris has significant support among women and Latino voters. Among women and Spanish-speaking voters, Harris led Trump by 13 percentage points, with 49% to 36%.
According to four Reuters/Ipsos polls conducted in July, Harris had a 9-point lead over Trump among women and a 6-point lead among Spanish-speaking voters.
Trump continued to lead among white voters and men, maintaining the same margin as in July. However, his advantage among voters without a college degree has narrowed to 7 points in the latest survey, down from 14 points in July.
Meanwhile, in seven key states - Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, North Carolina, Michigan, and Nevada—Trump led Harris by 45% to 43% among registered voters surveyed.
Increase in enthusiasm
Approximately 73% of registered Democratic voters in the survey indicated they are more enthusiastic about voting in November since Harris entered the race. While a March Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 61% of respondents intending to vote for Biden did so mainly to stop Trump, 52% of Harris supporters in the August survey said they were voting to support her as a candidate rather than primarily to oppose Trump.
However, Trump supporters also expressed enthusiasm for their candidate: 64% said their choice was more motivated by support for Trump than by opposition to Harris.
Voters acknowledged that Trump has a better approach to managing the U.S. economy, with 45% favoring him compared to 36%, a larger margin than in another Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted this week.
The timing of the latest survey partially coincided with the Democratic National Convention in Chicago from August 19-22, where Harris officially accepted her party's nomination. It remains to be seen whether she can maintain a similar level of enthusiasm among voters.
The survey was conducted nationwide and gathered responses from 4,253 adult Americans, including 3,562 registered voters.
Additionally, the survey showed that independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who suspended his campaign on August 23, received support from 6% of voters.
US presidential election
The next US presidential election is scheduled for November 5, 2024.
The main candidates in the race are Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump.
In late July, incumbent President Joe Biden was forced to withdraw from the race after losing in the first round of debates with his opponent. Kamala Harris was selected as the new Democratic candidate.
According to a recent Associated Press-NORC poll, Americans show more support for Harris than for Trump.
On July 28, Trump claimed he had agreed with Harris on the rules for the scheduled September 10 debates.
