Hamas shells IDF, Houthis launch drones at Tel Aviv

In the Gaza Strip, Hamas militants opened fire on Israeli forces, while Yemen’s Houthi rebels launched a drone attack targeting Tel Aviv, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and The Times of Israel.
Both incidents occurred on Friday, April 11.
In the afternoon, Hamas militants opened fire on Israel Defense Forces (IDF) operating in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
The IDF returned fire and killed two militants. Shortly afterward, Israeli forces launched another strike, eliminating a third member of the same cell.
As a result of the attack by the Hamas unit, an IDF officer sustained moderate injuries and was evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment.
Additionally, on Friday evening, Israeli forces intercepted a hostile drone approaching from the east.
Responsibility for the attack was claimed by Yemen's Houthi rebels, who announced they had launched two drones targeting what they described as military objectives near Tel Aviv.
According to the IDF, one of the drones was intercepted by Israeli Air Force units, while the second drone did not reach Israeli territory.
Israel’s war with Hamas and the breakdown of the ceasefire
In January 2025, Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire and a hostage exchange deal. Several rounds of hostage swaps followed in the ensuing weeks. However, by mid-March, Hamas began stalling the process, prompting the IDF to resume active military operations and airstrikes in the Gaza Strip.
By late March, Jerusalem signaled its willingness to renew the truce and presented new conditions to the Palestinian side.
On April 7, Hamas launched rocket attacks on Israeli territory, triggering an intensified IDF military campaign in Gaza.
Meanwhile, Israel is preparing a new agreement aimed at securing the release of another group of hostages, with US President Donald Trump directly involved in the mediation efforts.
