Half of Ukrainians worry about behind-the-scenes talks between West and Moscow
In May 2024, about half of Ukrainians (47%) feared that the United States could negotiate a peace agreement with Russia without the participation of the Ukrainian government, according to a survey by the European Council on Foreign Relations.
At the same time, 49% do not fear secret negotiations between Washington and Moscow.
Respondents were also asked to make a choice between maintaining sovereignty and regaining the territories.
The data showed that 45% chose the option "Ukraine losing parts of its currently occupied territory but remaining sovereign, with its own army and freedom to choose its alliances such as the EU and NATO".
26% preferred the option "Ukraine regaining its currently occupied territory but agreeing to demilitarize and become a neutral country that cannot join alliances such as the EU and NATO.
According to the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology survey, a relative majority of Ukrainians (49%) believe that the West continues to support Ukraine. However, 44% stated that the West is becoming tired of Ukraine and its support is weak.
About a third (34%) of residents from 52 countries worldwide believe that the US, EU, and NATO have done too little to help Ukraine during the Russian invasion. Meanwhile, half say that the US, EU, and NATO have done enough to help Ukraine (46%), and 19% believe they have done too much.
