Greece to offer tourists vacation worth hundreds of euros: Who can come
The Greek government has announced that tourists who vacationed on Rhodes last year will be given a free holiday in 2024. Electronic vouchers will be issued for up to 500 euros.
Euronews.travel reports who will be eligible to come for a free holiday and what are the program's conditions.
In July 2023, wildfires broke out on Rhodes, forcing about 25,000 tourists to evacuate. Now, the Greek government is offering them compensation in the form of a holiday this year. Those who stayed in hotels evacuated due to the fires will be able to use vouchers worth up to 500 euros to cover a week's stay.
The electronic vouchers will be valid during the off-season on the island - from these days until May 31, and then from October 1 to November 15.
Representatives of the tourist service in Rhodes say that there is already a high demand for vouchers, with over 5000 future vacationers already registered. It is expected that there will be even more applications for autumn dates when more people learn about the scheme.
The compensation will range from 300 to 500 euros, but it is only available in hotels, not private accommodations.
We also mentioned that seven out of ten of the world's cleanest beaches are in Europe. Greece is also included in the top 10.
