First ship from Odesa port arrives in Istanbul, Reuters
The first ship to utilize the temporary transportation corridor opened by Ukraine after Russia's exit from the "grain deal" crosses the Türkish Bosporus strait, according to Reuters.
The container ship Joseph Schulte under the flag of Hong Kong, which left the blockaded Ukrainian Black Sea port of Odesa earlier this week, had been in port since February 23, 2022, a day before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began.
Local television and radio companies reported that the vessel will anchor in the port of Ambarli in southern Istanbul.
Last week, Ukraine announced the creation of a "humanitarian corridor" in the Black Sea to release cargo ships that were trapped in its ports after Russia's exit from the "grain deal."
Meanwhile, Russia has not indicated whether it will respect the navigational corridor, and maritime and insurance sources have expressed concerns about safety.
The first ship departs from the port of Odesa after the termination of the "grain deal"
On August 16, the container ship "Joseph Schulte" departed from the port of Odesa. It became the first civilian vessel to utilize the temporary transportation corridor opened after Russia's exit from the "grain deal."
The temporary corridor will primarily be used for evacuating ships that were in the Ukrainian ports of Chornomorsk, Odesa, and Pivdennyi at the time of Russia's full-scale invasion. Ukraine proposed this route in its communication to the International Maritime Organization.
After Russia's exit from the "grain deal," the ship last departed from the port of Odesa on July 16.
