German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, following his conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated that Ukraine needs a peace plan, Deutsche Welle reports, citing German government representative Stefan Cornelius.

According to him, there are plans to increase pressure on Moscow through sanctions and frozen Russian assets.

“Volodymyr Zelenskyy enjoys the full support of Germany and our European friends on the path to peace,” Cornelius quoted Merz as saying.

He noted that after the meeting between the Ukrainian president and US president Donald Trump, the leaders of European countries discussed further actions with Zelenskyy and intend to monitor the next steps closely.

The media does not provide any further details regarding the peace plan for Ukraine.

Zelenskyy-Trump talks

On October 17, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had talks at the White House with US President Donald Trump. Following the meeting, the American leader stated that Washington plans to end the war without transferring long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.

Trump emphasized the need to cease hostilities along the current front line, regardless of its location. The day before, he had held a phone call with Russian president Vladimir Putin, and after the meeting with Zelenskyy, he announced a new summit with the Russian president.

The Trump-Putin talks are to take place in Budapest within the next two weeks, with Zelenskyy participating as a remote intermediary.
