A few months ago, Russian forces heavily damaged the radar station of one of Ukraine’s Patriot air defense systems. However, Germany has managed to restore it, stated Major General Maik Keller, Deputy Commander of NATO Security Assistance and Training Program for Ukraine, in an interview with FAZ.

Keller said the radar was transported back to Germany, where specialists initially determined it was beyond repair.

"Since replacing the radar would have taken several years, experts from the German Luftwaffe attempted to repair it themselves and were ultimately successful, working 16 hours a day from Monday to Saturday," the German general explained.

He added that the radar unit was delivered back to Ukraine in July and is now operational. Just last week, the first Russian target was intercepted using this very radar unit.

Germany's support for Ukraine

Germany plans to gradually transfer additional Patriot systems to Ukraine. In the coming days, the Bundeswehr will deliver more Patriot launchers, followed by additional system components within the next two to three months.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that his country is ready to provide two Patriot systems, but noted that this is only possible if they can be quickly replaced.
