In Germany, suspicions of possible biological or chemical contamination of water supplied to a Bundeswehr base have arisen for the third time, this time in the city of Mechernich, DW reports.

Suspicion of water contamination arose after a cut fence was discovered near one of the city's drinking water reservoirs. The Bundeswehr military base located in the city and receives its water from this reservoir.

However, following investigations, local authorities reported that the threat was not confirmed. Residents of Mehernich are advised to boil water, and inspections are ongoing.

What preceded it

This incident of suspected sabotage involving water for the military was the third in the past week.

On the night of August 14, water control sensors at the Air Force base in the Cologne district of Wahn triggered suspicion of possible poisoning. Staff noticed a suspicious person dressed in black, but they managed to escape. A hole was found in the base's fence, and several Bundeswehr firefighters reported health problems.

The same occurred at the NATO military base in Geilenkirchen. Surveillance cameras captured an unknown individual climbing over the base's fence. Water samples taken at the scene showed no anomalies, but the investigation is ongoing.

Residents of the areas adjacent to the bases are currently not at risk, as the Bundeswehr facilities have separate water supply systems. However, they have been warned to use water resources cautiously.

Cologne Air Force base

This facility is an important logistical hub for supporting Ukraine in the war against Russian aggression. Ukrainian soldiers who have trained in Germany typically fly from Cologne to Poland.

Currently, there are suspicions in the Bundestag that Russia may be involved in these potential acts of sabotage.

We also reported that the German commander of the Hamburg Regional Command, Admiral Michael Giss, warned of the possibility of a global war in 5 years and urged preparation for it.
