Germany reacts to Ukraine's use of supplied weapons in Kursk region
There have been claims online that Ukraine may have used German tanks and infantry fighting vehicles during an operation in the Kursk region. German Finance Minister Christian Lindner has responded on SRF.
Commenting on the issue of the possible use of German weapons in the Kursk region, he emphasized that the weapons were transferred under Ukraine's responsibility.
"The weapons were provided under Ukraine's responsibility, which is defending itself against aggression and exercising its right to self-defense," the minister said.
Lindner also stated that the weapons would be used for Ukraine's defense.
Additionally, the German publication Bild analyzed a video from the Kursk region. Journalists claimed to have spotted an engineering tank Wiesent, based on the Leopard 1 tank, marked with Ukrainian military symbols.
The video also showed Ukrainian defenders in the Kursk region using German infantry fighting vehicles Marder.
Kursk operation
For two weeks, Ukrainian defensive forces have been conducting an offensive operation in the Kursk region. Ukraine has established a military command in the Kursk region and plans to open a humanitarian corridor.
Fighting continues in the border areas of the Kursk region. Ukrainian military sources reported that Russia is deploying forces for defense, but these are rear units and reserves from the front.
According to media reports, Russians have sent a so-called "space brigade" of the Russian Aerospace Forces to the Kursk region, which has been reclassified as motorized infantry.
