In Germany, officials believe that in the event of a war with Russia, they could suffer around 1,000 wounded soldiers per day, said Germany's Surgeon General Ralf Hoffmann, Reuters reports.

He noted that the number of wounded in a potential conflict with Russia would depend on the intensity of the fighting and the units involved.

"Realistically, we are talking about a figure of around 1,000 wounded troops per day," added Hoffmann.

He also noted that the nature of Russia’s war against Ukraine has changed radically, referring to a shift from gunshot wounds to explosive injuries and burns caused by drones and loitering munitions.

According to Hoffmann, Ukraine often cannot evacuate its wounded because Russian "drones are buzzing overhead everywhere." As a result, injured personnel sometimes need prolonged stabilization directly on the frontline — sometimes for several hours.

Germany's Surgeon General also added that flexible options are needed for transporting the wounded. In this context, the Bundeswehr is considering the use of medical trains and buses, as well as expanding air medical evacuation capabilities.

Russian threats

On September 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin once again threatened Western countries with nuclear weapons.

According to him, Moscow would respond to threats not with words but with military force.

Recently, US Special Envoy Keith Kellogg suggested that Putin aims to revive an empire, which raises the risk of a Russian attack on a NATO country.
