Germany plans to increase number of bunkers: What’s behind
Germany plans to increase the number of shelters for its civilian population due to the worsening international security situation, according to Spiegel.
As the agency reports, the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance of Germany intends to create more shelters across the country. A spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of the Interior stated that "there is currently an intention to develop key aspects of the shelter concept." According to him, "broad coordination" is expected, and therefore, this process "will still take some time."
The goal of this decision is to identify which facilities are suitable for creating shelters. These include underground parking lots, metro stations, and basements.
In addition, both public buildings and private premises in the country are expected to be equipped. According to the provided information, citizens should be able to find the shortest route to a shelter via their mobile phones.
Sabotage at NATO bases in Germany
At the beginning of September, authorities in Cologne, Germany, began investigating a possible sabotage at a NATO base that is important for logistics and supporting Ukraine. The base is responsible for transporting Ukrainian military personnel from Cologne to Poland.
There are suspicions in the Bundestag that Russia might be involved, and media suggests that Putin may respond to Ukraine’s partners' authorization of long-range weapon strikes on Russia.
Additionally, we recently reported that Germany has launched large-scale preparations for a potential conflict with Russia, which, according to experts, could have a more significant impact on the country than the war in Ukraine.
