Germany has sent Eurofighter jets and 150 troops to Poland to strengthen security on NATO’s eastern flank, Welt reports.

The German Air Force reported that several Eurofighter jets flew from the Norvenich airbase to the Polish military airfield in Malbork.

Around 150 personnel arrived with the aircraft, including pilots, technical specialists, logisticians, security personnel, and military police.

"This mission makes another valuable contribution to the defense of the eastern part of the Alliance and demonstrates support for Poland and NATO," emphasized Air Force Inspector Lieutenant General Holger Neumann.

The deployment is planned until March 2026 and comes in response to recent airspace violations and kamikaze drone incursions.

In August and September 2025, German fighters were already deployed at Malbork airbase.

The airfield is located 60 km southeast of Gdańsk and 80 km from Kaliningrad.

This deployment is part of NATO’s ongoing strategy to strengthen the eastern flank in response to increased Russian military activity.

Drones over the EU

In 2025, Germany saw a sharp increase in cases of unauthorized drone use, with over a thousand incidents recorded, including near Bundeswehr naval facilities.

Drone activity was also observed near airports in Brussels and Liège, causing disruptions to air traffic. Belgium’s Army Chief of Staff, Frédérik Vansina, ordered that suspicious drones be shot down, but only if they posed a threat to people or infrastructure.

It was also reported that on December 2, German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt announced the launch of a new police unit to combat drones.
