German Minister of Foreign Affairs calls for increased assistance to Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin may take advantage of the US transition period. Therefore, European countries need to increase their assistance to Ukraine now, according to German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
"We don't have time to wait until spring; this is a transitional period that Putin has always been waiting for after the results of the US election," the official emphasized.
According to her, everything Europe can offer to support Ukraine "must be mobilized now." This includes strengthening Ukraine's air defense in response to the intensifying Russian drone attacks.
"The war has reached a new level... now it's a total air war," said Baerbock.
She expressed hope that Germany would be able to increase its budget spending for aid to Ukraine, "at least to cover the basic needs of Ukraine's defense, especially regarding protection from drones."
US presidential election
Last week, the US held a presidential election. Donald Trump won by a significant margin.
Following the elections, the US has entered a transitional period. The inauguration will take place on January 20, when Trump will officially become President, and the Republicans will hold a majority in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
