German Foreign Minister to visit China - Ukraine on agenda
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock will visit China in the coming days. In Beijing, she is expected to discuss Ukraine among other topics, Tagesschau reports.
A spokesperson for Germany’s Foreign Ministry announced that Annalena Baerbock will travel to China on a brief visit starting Sunday, December 1.
On Monday, the German Foreign Minister will meet her Chinese counterpart. According to the spokesperson, the discussions will include the war in Ukraine, among other topics.
China’s position on the war in Ukraine
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, China has claimed to maintain a neutral position. However, Beijing refers to the war as the "Ukraine crisis" or "conflict" and calls for a so-called political resolution.
China continues active economic cooperation with Moscow. While there is no official confirmation of China supplying weapons or military aid to Russia, Chinese companies have reportedly provided dual-use goods that could be used for weapons production.
China has proposed its own "peace plan" for Ukraine, but President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has criticized alternative peace proposals, calling them destructive.
