Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has criticized peace plans proposed by China and Brazil to end the war, labeling them as "destructive" and prearranged with the Kremlin. He said that these plans are merely political statements and fail to account for the real situation, citing Metropoles.

Zelenskyy emphasized that he had offered to discuss the issue with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva but expressed surprise at why Brazil chose a "middle ground" and seemed to support Russia.

"Their proposal is also destructive. It’s just a political statement. I told Brazil's president: 'Let's sit down together and talk.' We're not your enemies, and you're not our enemies. Why did you suddenly decide to side with Russia and take a neutral stance? We’re not fools," he said.

Zelenskyy also criticized the Brazilian government's stance, claiming that Brasília is taking a pro-Russian position regarding the war in Eastern Europe.

Zelenskyy expressed disappointment that President Lula is seeking political appeasement instead of taking a stronger stance on the conflict.

"I had a good conversation with President Lula, and I thought he understood me. I was grateful for the meeting with him and was very open, completely open. I hoped to see in his experience an understanding of what’s happening, rather than just political appeasement," he said.

Zelenskyy added that he expected more understanding from Lula after their meeting, but stressed that Brazil's efforts to find a peaceful solution remain unsuccessful, as Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, whom the Ukrainian leader called a murderer, shows no intention of ending the war.

Ukraine’s peace plans

Ukraine has proposed its own diplomatic path to achieving peace, based on international law and the principles of the UN Charter. This plan is known as the "peace formula."

Ukraine organized its first peace summit in June 2024 in Switzerland and is now preparing for the second one.

Although countries like China and Brazil have offered their peace plans, Ukraine has rejected them, deeming them inconsistent with its approach.
