Europe must increase pressure on the US after Washington decided to hold talks with Russia. There should be no "imaginary peace" between Ukraine and Russia, states German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, according to MDR.

"We will increase pressure on the Americans to make them understand that they will have to lose as much as possible if they no longer stand on the side of Europe's liberal democracies," Baerbock said, commenting on US-Russia negotiations on Ukraine.

She also warned against an "imaginary peace," "blackmail," and "capitulation" amid talks on Ukraine.

At the same time, Baerbock pledged to support Ukraine for as long as the country needs it.

US-Russia talks

Earlier this week, a meeting between US and Russian delegations took place in Saudi Arabia. The US delegation was led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, while the Russian delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

One of the key topics discussed was ending Russia’s war against Ukraine. The meeting was held behind closed doors, so no details about the discussions have been disclosed.

Following the meeting, the US State Department stated that the US and Russia had agreed to appoint teams for negotiations on Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that he would not recognize the outcomes of such meetings, as they are conducted without Ukraine’s participation.
