German chancellor candidate from Green Party ready to provide Ukraine with Taurus missiles
The German chancellor candidate from the Green Party, Robert Habeck, is ready to transfer German Taurus missiles to Ukraine for strikes on Russian territory, reports Die Zeit.
In an interview with ARD, he stated that he is ready to reconsider Chancellor Olaf Scholz's decision on the matter.
"The answer to this question (on the missile transfer) is yes," Habeck said.
He also added that arms deliveries are always among the most difficult decisions made by the government.
Transfer of Taurus missiles to Ukraine
Current German Chancellor Olaf Scholz refuses to transfer long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine, arguing that it would lead to a significant escalation and drag Germany into a war with Russia.
Earlier, the candidate for Chancellor from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Friedrich Merz, also expressed readiness to provide Ukraine with Taurus missiles.
Collapse of the coalition in Germany
At the beginning of November, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz dismissed Finance Minister Christian Lindner, a member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD). Following this, all ministers from the SPD were removed from the government, leading to the collapse of the ruling coalition in the Bundestag.
On Sunday, November 17, the Alliance 90/The Greens party held federal congresses, where they nominated current Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck as the party's candidate for Chancellor of Germany. He was supported by 96.5% of the attendees.
