'Game for Europe's future': Tusk warns Ukraine war enters decisive phase

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk says the fight for Ukraine's future and Europe's security enters a decisive phase. The West must maintain unity and act together, reports The Guardian.
The Polish Prime Minister warned that the struggle for Ukraine's future and European security has reached a "decisive phase." He called on the West to remain united in confronting Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"The game for Ukraine's future, Poland's security, and all of Europe has entered a decisive phase. Today, it is even clearer that Russia respects only the strong, and Putin has once again proven to be a cunning and ruthless player. Therefore, maintaining the unity of the entire West is so important," Tusk said.
Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump reportedly asked Polish President Karol Nawrocki at the last moment to join a teleconference with European leaders on Ukraine on Wednesday.
Tusk added that Nawrocki was also present during a Friday evening phone call between Trump and European leaders following the summit with Putin in Alaska.
Trump-Putin meeting
US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks yesterday, August 15, at a military base in Anchorage, Alaska.
The meeting was conducted in a three-on-three format and lasted nearly three hours. The US delegation included Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. Russia was represented, in addition to Putin, by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov.
After the talks, the leaders held a joint press conference. Journalists, however, were not allowed to ask questions.
Trump said no agreement on Ukraine was reached, though he claimed some progress had been made.
European leaders have already started reacting to the Trump-Putin meeting. RBC-Ukraine provides further details.
It was reported that after meeting with Putin, Trump called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Their earlier phone conversation, which included European allies, lasted more than 90 minutes.
RBC-Ukraine also reported who else participated in the call besides Zelenskyy.
