CIA Director John Ratcliffe regularly meets with Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Director Sergey Naryshkin, and his recent visit to Moscow was a routine working trip, US President Donald Trump said in an interview with Axios.

According to Trump, the heads of US and Russian intelligence services meet every six months or once a year. He emphasized that the heads of the two countries’ intelligence agencies have a "very good relationship."

The US president also expressed surprise at the media’s heightened attention to the intelligence chief’s trip to Moscow. He stressed that it was a routine working trip.

"There was no message and there was nothing unusual," Trump assured.

It should be recalled that CIA Director John Ratcliffe visited Moscow on August 25. Later, Russian leader’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov revealed details of Ratcliffe’s talks with Russian intelligence officials.

Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Director Sergey Naryshkin also confirmed that he met with the CIA chief in Moscow. According to him, they discussed issues within the remit of the intelligence services.
