G7 Foreign Ministers discuss steps to de-escalate Middle East crisis
On Sunday, August 4, G7 foreign ministers held a phone call on the situation in the Middle East, according to the US Department of State.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his G7 counterparts reportedly discussed the urgent need for de-escalation in the Middle East.
In particular, the parties spoke about ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, which would guarantee the release of hostages and increase the amount of humanitarian aid entering Gaza.
They also discussed how a ceasefire in Gaza would open up the possibility of greater peace and stability in the region.
In addition, Blinken and the Foreign Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to Israel's security and called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint to prevent the conflict from escalating.
Israel is preparing for a multi-day missile and drone attack by Iran and Hezbollah in response to the assassination of a senior Hezbollah commander and Hamas leader last week.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that the United States and Israel expect an Iranian strike on Monday, August 5. US officials expect Iran's response to follow the same scenario as the attack on Israel on April 13.
