First information about suspect in assassination attempt on former US President emerged
The man who attempted to kill former US President Donald Trump has been identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, reports The New York Post and CNN.
Sources from The New York Post have reported that the man was sitting on the roof of a manufacturing plant more than 390 feet away from the scene.
The FBI considers the shooting an attempt to assassinate Donald Trump.
“This evening, we had what we’re calling an assassination attempt against our former President Donald Trump. It’s still an active crime scene,” said Kevin Rojek, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office.
He stated that authorities are working feverishly to identify who did this and any motives behind it, and urged the public to provide any information that could assist.
Rodegher also stated that the agency is using biometric confirmations to identify the shooter since the suspect did not have any identification documents on him.
"We’re looking at photographs right now, and we’re trying to run his DNA and get biometric confirmation," he said.
When asked about whether authorities know what weapon was used and how many shots were fired, Rodegher replied that they do not have that information.
On July 14, an attempt was made on Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania. After shots rang out, security personnel shielded the former president and removed him from the stage.
Later, it was revealed that Trump sustained a minor gunshot wound. One spectator and the attacker were reported dead.
According to the spokesperson, Trump is feeling well.
President Joe Biden expressed gratitude to the Secret Service for safely evacuating Trump. Biden also called for condemnation of the assassination attempt.
On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump stated that he was wounded in the upper part of his right ear and lost a significant amount of blood.
At the rally site, law enforcement found an AR-type rifle.
