Trump makes his first statement after shooting at rally
US presidential candidate Donald Trump has commented for the first time on the assassination attempt made against him during a rally in Pennsylvania, reports The Washington Post.
In his Truth Social social media platform, he stated that he was wounded in the upper part of his right ear and lost a lot of blood.
"I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening," Trump reported.
He thanked the US Secret Service and all law enforcement agencies for their swift response to the shooting.
Donald Trump expressed condolences to the families of the person who was shot and killed and another who was seriously injured.
"It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country," the politician noted.
The US presidential candidate also wrote that the perpetrator who opened fire has been killed, but there is currently no information available about them.
What happened
During a rally in Pennsylvania on June 13, US presidential candidate Donald Trump was the target of an assassination attempt.
After sounds resembling gunfire, he touched his ear and then sat down on the ground. Blood was visible on his face. Shortly after, the US Secret Service swiftly removed Trump from the stage and evacuated him.
According to reports from several American media outlets, the shooter who fired at Trump was not at the rally but likely on a rooftop outside the venue. It is reported that the shooter was killed by Secret Service agents.
US President Joe Biden stated that there is no place for such violence in America and called on the entire country to condemn this act. At the same time, he noted that he cannot yet definitively label the shooting at Trump's rally as an assassination attempt.
The incumbent US President expressed relief to hear that Trump is safe and expressed hope to speak with him later in the evening.
