The only red line in ending the war in Ukraine is Russia and its demands. France and other EU countries want peace in Ukraine, not its capitulation, according to French President Emmanuel Macron.
"In recent years, the confrontation with Russia has reached a new level. Russia is engaged in a strategic confrontation with the Europeans. We must show that we are invulnerable to the force that threatens us," he says.
Macron stresses that the initial draft agreement, which was drawn up without taking Ukrainian interests into account, is only beneficial to Russia and needs to be revised.
The French President adds that the peace plan cannot include restrictions on the restoration of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' strength and the use of frozen Russian assets.
According to him, only Europe can dispose of them.
In addition, Macron stresses that the issue of territorial concessions should be decided exclusively by Ukrainians.
US peace plan for Ukraine
The United States has prepared a 28-point peace plan to end the war in Ukraine, most of which contradict Ukrainian interests.
In particular, the document provided for a reduction in the size of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to 600,000, refusal of NATO membership with the inclusion of this in the Constitution and the Alliance Charter, the actual transfer of Donetsk, Luhansk regions, and Crimea to Russia, as well as the recognition of the Russian-occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.
Earlier, Bloomberg wrote that the peace plan to end Russia's war against Ukraine, which the US presented to Ukraine, was developed in October by US Special Representative Steve Witkoff and US President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, together with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev in Miami.
According to the agency, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was unaware of the peace plan's development. US President Donald Trump did not participate in the process, but approved Witkoff and Dmitriev's peace plan after reviewing it.
The Washington Post writes that Trump was not too involved in the details of the peace plan. He only received general instructions regarding the negotiations.
