The Bureau of the French National Assembly, which oversees the work of the parliament, has rejected a resolution on the impeachment of President Emmanuel Macron submitted by the La France Insoumise (Unsubmissive France) party, Le Figaro reports.

According to the outlet, the resolution was signed by 104 left-wing lawmakers, including some members of the Ecological and Social and Socialists and Related parliamentary groups.

However, during the vote, the Bureau members were divided: five voted in favor, ten against, and five abstained.

Vice presidents of the parliament from the Unsubmissive France party, Nadège Abomangoli and Clémence Guetté, as expected, supported the consideration of the resolution. Their position was shared by deputies from the Ecologists and Socialists.

Representatives of the ruling coalition voted against it, while the far-right National Rally abstained. As a result, the Bureau’s decision effectively halted the progress of the resolution — it will not be forwarded to the Law Commission or to the floor of the National Assembly for debate.

Parliamentary crisis in France

Earlier, we reported that Sébastien Lecornu submitted his resignation as France’s prime minister to Emmanuel Macron. This happened less than a month after his appointment.

On September 8, the National Assembly of France passed a vote of no confidence in the government led by François Bayrou.

The decision was supported by 194 out of 364 lawmakers — all parties opposing Emmanuel Macron, from the far left to the far right, voted in favor of the government’s dismissal.

More details on why the previous French government was dismissed can be found in RBC-Ukraine’s report.
