The French government is close to finalizing and signing a bilateral agreement with Ukraine regarding security guarantees for our state. Agreements may be concluded at the beginning of next year, writes Sky News.

This was stated by the representative of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Anne-Claire Lejeune.

As announced today, on November 29, the spokesperson for the French ministry hopes that such a bilateral agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine will be completed in early 2024.

The agreement is intended to define how France's support to Ukraine will be provided in the form of humanitarian, military, and financial aid.

Security guarantees for Ukraine

Recall that Ukrainian officials have repeatedly emphasized the need for security guarantees for our country. They will prevent Russia from launching a new invasion after the war is over, while Ukraine is not yet a NATO member.

At the NATO summit in Vilnius, the Big Seven countries signed a declaration of security guarantees for Ukraine. Dozens of other countries have already joined this declaration.

Negotiations with France

The first round of negotiations between Ukrainian officials and representatives of France on a bilateral agreement on security guarantees took place on October 19.

At that time, the parties agreed on a plan for further bilateral negotiations and the coordination process regarding security guarantees in the near future.

It should be noted that yesterday, on November 28, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, announced that the EU mission would present proposals for commitments to Ukraine in the field of security in Kyiv next week.
