Former Ukrainian politician's murder in Madrid: Ukrainian Embassy monitoring investigation

Former Ukrainian politician and lawyer Andriy Portnov was shot dead in Madrid, Spain. The attack was carried out by a group of individuals, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
According to the Embassy of Ukraine in Spain, the murder took place on the morning of Wednesday, May 21, in Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid Province.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that, according to law enforcement authorities, the attack was carried out by a group of individuals.
"The investigation is being conducted by Homicide Group No. 5 in cooperation with the Forensic Department of the Madrid Regional Directorate of the Spanish National Police," the MFA stated.
As of May 22, no suspects had been detained in connection with the case. However, the Embassy of Ukraine remains in constant contact with law enforcement agencies and is awaiting more detailed information in response to an official request submitted to the Spanish National Police.
"The case is under the supervision of the diplomatic mission," the statement said.
Killing of Portnov
Yesterday, May 21, former Ukrainian politician Andriy Portnov was killed near Madrid. He previously served as an advisor to former President Viktor Yanukovych.
According to reports, Andriy Portnov was killed right in a parking lot near a school on the outskirts of Madrid — he was shot in the back.
